Yes, this is a great idea, but much of this exists, only in pieces,

The time bank exists at: http://www.pdxtimebank.org/.

The Oregon Barter Directory also exists at http://oregon.uscity.net/Barter/.

The Oregon Microenterprise Network (OMEN) http://www.oregon-microbiz.org is a statewide association of microenterprise development programs and their supporters. OMEN’s mission is to increase opportunities for economically and geographically disadvantaged entrepreneurs by building the capacity and quality of Oregon microenterprise and entrepreneur development services.

The Oregon State University Open Source Lab is the home of growing, high-impact open source communities. It is found at http://osuosl.org/

An umbrella organization connecting all these might be a good way to go!

These kinds of solutions will be a major aspect of future community and economic life. The financial crisis of 2008 is a game-changer. Corporate cubicle jobs are likely not the hope of Oregonians, rather brand new business models, cottage industries, valuing material goods in new ways- this is likely the best route to our healthy future. A mutual credit and time bank network will create value AND community and Oregon can lead the way!
